Sopes – Fried dough with a Mexican topping

This is a traditional Mexican dish that originated in the central and southern part of Mexico. Sopes are a popular and delicious street snack that you can find almost everywhere in Mexico.

Sopes are like small tortillas that are thicker and have a border around the edges. At first glance, a sope looks like an unusually thick tortilla with vegetables and garnishes. 


  • Picadillo (beef)
  • Tinga (chicken or carrot)
  • Chorizo with potatoes
  • Pibil (pork or mushrooms
  • Beef

Served with beans, fresh cream, shepherd’s cheese, iceberg lettuce, and green or red sauce. Optional: lemon.
