Staple food of India. Dal chawal (rice) is a very filling yet healthy meal. Dal is made of lentils.


  • Dal (lentils) (commonly used varieties include moong dal, masoor dal, or toor dal)
  • Onion
  • Garlic cloves
  • Ginger
  • Green chilies
  • Turmeri powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Corriander powder
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt
  • Oil or ghee (clarified butter)
  • Cumin seeds (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Basmati rice (or any other long-grain rice)
