Chana masala and puri

Chana masala is a North Indian curried dish made with white chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, spices and herbs. Puri is a deep-fried bread made from unleavened whole-wheat flour.


  • Dried chickpeas (or 4 cups of canned chickpeas)
  • Onion
  • Tomatoes
  • Oil or ghee (clarified butter)
  • Ginger-garlic paste
  • Green chilies, (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Cumin seeds
  • Coriander powder
  • Cumin powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Red chili powder (adjust to spice preference)
  • Choley masala
  • Dry mango powder (amchur) or lemon juice (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
